An impacted tooth occurs when there isn’t enough space in the jaw for it to fully emerge. While most people develop 32 permanent adult teeth, the jaw is often too small to accommodate the four wisdom teeth. When these teeth cannot erupt properly, they are considered impacted. This means they’re unable to move into the correct position, making it difficult to chew or clean the area properly.

To determine if you would benefit from wisdom tooth removal, we will conduct a consultation and take a special X-ray (panorex) to assess the position of your wisdom teeth, their potential for eruption, and the complexity of their removal.
Here are the main types of impactions:
Soft Tissue Impaction: The wisdom tooth is partially covered by gum tissue, preventing proper cleaning. This can lead to discomfort and hygiene issues.
Partial Bony Impaction: There’s enough space for the tooth to partially erupt, but it doesn’t fully function for chewing. This can create challenges for cleaning and may cause discomfort or other issues.
Complete Bony Impaction: The wisdom tooth is completely trapped in the jawbone, with no space to erupt. In some cases, even if partially visible, removal requires advanced surgical techniques. The tooth may be in an unusual position or the jaw’s shape may make removal more complex.
Each situation requires a tailored approach, and we’ll work with you to determine the best solution for your oral health.
